I have always taken inspiration from music that creates stories and images for the listener. My professional musical journey started In the 1990s as guitarist and co-writer for indie band Assembly Communications with Nick Talbot (who went on to form Gravenhurst). At the same time I was a drum and bass DJ and producer in the Bristol underground scene, performing regularly at venues like the iconic Lakota nightclub. I went on to combine both my passions for melodic, narrative song-writing with beats and rhythms of Drum and Bass as producer and guitarist for Barriokingdom, a live DnB band. After 10 years of being an integral part of the Bristol music scene , I felt the need to go solo and rediscover my own sound. A 40th birthday present found me at Thomas Leeb's acoustic fingerstyle Bootcamp in Austria and the pieces started to come together. Since then, I have immersed myself into the international fingerstyle scene and have refined my unique urban fingerstyle sound, drawing on the influences of my journey so far.
I have played on both sides of the Atlantic and across Europe.
Rob is one of the most extraordinary and forward-thinking British fingerstyle guitarists of his generation. With his fusion of urban groove composition and atmospheric acoustic textures, he creates entirely new worlds of sound.
His latest album, Passengers, takes listeners on a journey through pulsating rhythmic soundscapes and deeply moving melodies — a captivating, cinematic experience that is at once emotive, electrifying, and immersive.
Emerging from the UK’s indie scene, Rob originally fused songwriting and drum-and-bass beats before developing his own distinctive voice in percussive fingerstyle guitar. Live, his performances evoke “Faithless at midnight at a festival” — expansive, rhythm-driven, and irresistibly groovy. When intricate guitar rhythms collide with an urban pulse, the result is something genuinely unique.
In 2025, Rob was awarded Runner-Up at The Warsaw International Fingerstyle Festival, one of Europe’s most prestigious acoustic competitions (affiliated with the Mannheim Guitar Summit). He is also a teacher at Thomas Leeb’s internationally acclaimed Acoustic Bootcamp in Austria, and co-founder of the Jon Gomm Acoustic Bootcamp in the UK.
Looking ahead, Rob will be touring Portugal in March and September 2026, with additional European dates soon to be announced.
